Lauren Calleja

Lauren is a Certified Lactation Counselor, a Certified Breastfeeding and Human Milk Educator, and a birth doula, with a BA in Political Science. She is a mother of three sons and enjoys everything about birth & babies! Her passion is breastfeeding and chestfeeding support, offering both virtual and home/ hospital visits. When she isn't supporting families, she spends her time outdoors with her husband and sons, with friends, or curled up with a hot cup of coffee and a book!

Credentials:

BA, Political Science, University of Alberta (2013)

Breastfeeding and Human Milk Feeding Educator (BEC), Birth Arts International (2019): BAI Cert.# 1809412

Certified Lactation Counselor® (CLC®), The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (2023): ALPP ID#: 345692

CLC certification means that a person has received training and competency verification in breastfeeding and human lactation support, including assessing the latching and feeding process, providing corrective interventions, counseling mothers, understanding and applying knowledge of milk production including in special circumstances and other commonly encountered situations. The CLC certification is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and certifies that the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice meets the ANSI accreditation program requirements and those set forth in ANSI/ISOIEC 17024:2003 general requirements for bodies operating certification systems of persons for Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC).

CLCs are members of the health care team who can provide knowledge and counseling about optimal and sub-optimal breastfeeding. CLCs understand that breastfeeding decisions are made by the mother, who may have values and goals different from the counselor. A counseling approach is used to gather information and provide appropriate support to the mother and her family. CLCs work as part of the health care team, assuring appropriate referrals and recommendations. CLCs are qualified to provide education, counseling and clinical management.

For complex breast/chestfeeding situations that require the scope and expertise of an IBCLC, Sarah and Lauren work together to provide continuity of care to all clients.

Lauren works closely with the IBCLC's (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants) at Little Nursing Company (https://www.littlenursingco.com/), providing evidence-based in-person lactation education classes to expectant parents.
